REPRODUCED AT THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES. DECLASSIFIED Authority Stateletter Inhz wy. mL, NARI 02:9 24181 ARMENIA Local comment on the demonstration has been very slight. In fact, most of those who witnessed 1t consider that it was a complete failure from the point of view of the Communist Party. They state that some two hundred men cene from leredia and Alajuela; that there were between 200 and 300 women and children in the parade, and that therefore thoro were less than 800 men and boys from the capital.
Furthermore, the orderliness of the demonstration and the completa laok or belligerenoy on the part of the participants is taken by many to indicate that they are not very enthusiastic and do not know what communism is all about. am inclined to believe, that the demonstration on May 1st was more of a protest of tho unoployed than a communist manifestation; that the orderliness of the participants was due to the discipline required by the leaders; and that unless the local politicians eive more thought and attention to the unemployed and those of the peon Olass who are underpaia, the ranks or the communist organization will be greatly inoroased in the canine months, with the result that the Party will be able to elect deputies to the Congress in the elections of February 1934, and otherwise gain in strength.
