TRANSLATION THE BLOODY INCIDENT OF THE 22ND IN SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA The entire press has occupied itself extensively with the bloody incident of the 22nd in the capital.
We need not give details, but we do want to comment calmly on what happened. For the past two years we have affirmed that communism with its open tendency to destroy the present régime of government and of constitutionality, social and legal, should be outside of the pale of the law. It should not be supported by the law it opposes. Ex President González Viquez was much more prudent when he denied it (Communism) a legal status because they (the communists) had declared that their program was to substitute ano ther for the entire actual state of things. There is no greater danger for civilization than the communist régime which tends with hate to substitute the laboring class in the Government for the burgeois; to destroy the right of private property; to make the state the administrator of the property of its citizens, and a thousand other extremes.
The present government has not been of the same opinion as its predecessor and has permitted communism, which is first of all hatred against the Government itself, to gain strength, culminating in the lamentable incidents of the 22nd. Liberty must Be for good and in conformity with the law. policeman, humble son of the country, brother of these same workers, gave his life as fodder to the fury of a mob excited by men
