Communist political activities in anticipation of the Presidential and Congressional elections of February 9, 1936 appear to be somewhat restricted by a lack of funds, although meetings and rallies are held regularly in San José as well as in other towns of the Republic. Deputy Manuel Mora, the Secretary General of the Party, speaks at these meetings and evidently always finds listeners in spite of the opposition made to his party by the Roman Catholic clergy of the communities.
