SA J have the honor to inform the Department that Manuel Mora Valverde, mentioned in the Legation despatch No. 547 of January 17, 1939, as being a probable communist candidate for the Presidency of Costa Rica, was nominated to be the candidate of the Communist party, sometimes called the Workers and Farmers party (Bloque de Obreros y Campesinos. at a meeting of this organization in San José on the evening of January 30.
The meeting, held in one of the local stadiums, was stated in LA HORA, a San José news sheet more or less closely allied with the Communist party, to have been attended
