MAIL Its present attitude appears to be one of aloofness.
Yet in the DIARIO DE COSTA RICA there appeared on January 19 and January 20, respectively, two prominently placed semi editorials, si gned Miguel. in which the writer caustically criticized the local communist party for its new opportunism in seeking the moral support and votes or non members. Everybody to his own tastes. he said in the first article and added: We do not see in the communist deputy, Sr. Mora, an enemy. He is a serious person, well trained and intelligent. But as the leader of the party he cannot disassociate himself, the writer continued, from the cause. which is that of Moscow. And that cause should not be tolerated in a sane and serious nation like Costa Rica. he said. In the second article, the title of which was NO. the writer remarked: We do not want communists in Costa Rica. We do not want Moscow madness in our nest like vipers eggs which, incubated by our care, will burst forth and poison the brood. He continued that, judged by the declarations of the leader Mora, the Communist party is in liquidation, and fears to show itself alone before the electorate, for which reason it exhibits a desire to enter into an accord with others, always provided that its cause be permitted to live.
Having given space to these articles, it might be supposed that they reflect the opinion of the newspaper which printed them, and, in turn, the opinion of the Government, since the DIARIO DE COSTA RICA usually expresses the views of the Government. But, on the other hand
