MENT OF ST Sir: 118, 00B 128 ci Referring to my despatch No. 373 of August 10, concerning the approval given by the Archbishop of San José, Monseñor Sanabria, to the Vanguardia Popular party, have the honor to report that the Catholic Bishop of Cartago, Monseñor Volio, in an int tago. Monseñor Volo, in an interview which appeared in LA TRIBUNA of December 5, also indicated his whole hearted belief in the sincere motives of the new Vanguardia popular party. The article which was headlined Honestly, one can no longer speak of communism in our land. is quoted below: 818. 000 136 With respect to the alliance between the blican and Vanguardia parties, we take this occasion to give you once more a resumé of our thoughts which accord with our Christian sentiments and with other authoritative declarations within our ecclesiastical surroundings. It was, if we are not mistaken, during the zero period of the Communist party, shortly after the Atlantic strike. We admired the fearlessness and courage of the boys who took part in it, their mental integrity and the blind faith with which they acted on behalf of their cause; and, our regret was that such efforts were of no value to the country, because of the mistaken concept which inspired their leaders. Propose to the leaders that they adopt the Papal Encyclicals as their platform so that the sincerity of their efforts will be guided through channels of light and charity, tell them that we, the Catholics who desire greater social justice, will then be able to follow them and will follow them.
