When saw the President last night in connection with the Hurtado case he seemed listless and dispirited but said that the election had gone even better than they expected with a majority so large that fraud could not account for it. He attributed their success to several factors, especially to faet that Picado campaign cost 1, 600, 000 colones while Cortes only spent half of that, to statement by Ricardo Jimenez and to poor showing of Cortes in San Jose and CartagoHo remarked that it was too bad Cortès had not accepted the compromise orfered him earlier and avoided this over whelming defeat which finished him as a political figure here. Regarding the DIARIO DE COSTA RICA the President said he understood the paper would shortly resume publi cation in the name of its employees, apparently to avoid further loss of face by its owner Ulate.
