Education.
While Señor Picado has not had a great deal tonday om the subject of public education, it is known that, this is a matter close to his interests since his first public office was as Minister of Education. At one stage in his career he was the Director of the Alajuela Institute.
He stated that he planned to choose as his Minister of Education Señor Hernan Zamora whom he described as a tech. nician and not a communist or a politician.
Other Ministries.
Señor Picado stated that his brother René would take over the Ministry of Public Safety, and in my conversation with the latter don René stated that he would make a clean Sweep of the present officials in the Ministry. He made no bones about the fact that his associates heartily dis approved of the inefficient and, he inferred dishonest way in which the Calderón Guardia administration had run this and other ministries, He went so far as to describe the President as a man with certain weaknesses and generous impulses on which friends have grievously imposed.
As Minister of Interior or Gobernacion Señor Picado said he planned to select his law partner, Fernando Soto Harrison who, he said, enjoyed his perfoot confidence and with whom he had worked for a number of years. Want 3195 60 Señor Picado, in our conversation, referred to the fact that he had worked for many years as a lawyer for th United Fruit Company in Costa Rica. He declared that experience had been very valuable to him in that it hadtaught him American methods for which he had only admiration. He said that he was accustomed to dirset dealines and did not like as he expressed it to beat around the bush. He declared that that would be his policy when he got into the Casa Presidencial.
