In the recent controversy which arose in connection with the resale of the codulas of the Credito Hipotecario of Costa Rica, the Mexican Embassy here made energetic representations which were sufficient to cause President Calderón Guardia to reverse the stand taken by Foreign Minister Echandi regarding this matter. As the President remarked, when a choice had to be made between Mexico and Franco Spain, it was a foregone conclusion that Costa Rica would favor Mexico.
When it was reported that the Mexican labor leader Vicente Lombardo Toledano was going to transit Costa Rica en route to Montevideo on the eve of the election here, Ambassador Córdova frankly expressed his belief that this was an inopportune moment for such a visit.
