Several indications have been noted by Source in correspondence between MANUEL MORA, leader of the Vanguardia Popular, and his brother EDUARDO MORA, a student at the National University of Mexico, which indicate that persons travelling between Moxd. co and San Jos being used to carry mail. No indication has been found that there is any regular courier service, but it appears that various trusted friends who may be making the trip are utilized for this purpose, and that occasionally persons are sent especially for this purposee On May 5, 1944, EDUARDO wrote MANUEL, stating. ULJB (ANTONIO MIJE, Secretary of the Spanish Communist Party) reply is to be delivered to me Saturday. shall use est reliable person who is going to send it to you. wasnt able to see WOLJE until the 30th. He said he would return the 3rd and that he would give me the reply to you tomorrow. Are you going to come finallyt In the letter which you sent me with CUENDIS you led me to understand that with the return of probably TEODORO PICADO) you would be able to come. CUENDIS is known to be FEIRO CUENDIS, a member of the Vanguardia Popular who went to Mexico City during the latter part of April to enroll in the National University of Mexico.
On June 15, 1944, MANUEL MORA sent a cable to EDUARDO in Mexico, reading: GUILIERMO FERNANDEZ will arrive by plane next Sunday.
Please meet him. The cable was sent by one VIRGINIA CHEVEZ, presumably MANUEL MORA secretary. GUTLIERMO FERNANDEZ is a long prominent member of VANGUARDIA POPULAR who was recently eleoted one of the City Councilors of San Jose, and who apparently has no other oecupation except for such money as he receives from the Party for various work which he does for it. TRNANDEZ has no business either in San José or in Med. ee and does not have sufficient means to make a pleasure trip to Mexico City.
Source has advised that his trip was definitely in comection with his Communist affairs. but the exact purpose has not been learned.
