MENOR ANDUN FOR: The Abass dor FROM: Joseph Presley, Ieral Attache Re: Freedom of Recent Elections confidential reliable source advised on Februar 11, 146, that he had been told by PACO CALDERON GUARDIA that mornine that the elections were much freer this ti e then reviousl because of the free election policy of the United States Aubassador and thet without the influence of the bassador in this respect the elections would have been account ani ed by much more fraud.
OTILIO ULATE advised the sa le source on the morning of February 11, 1940, that the oosition had aanaged to do fairly well cause of the cou are vive absence of fraud in the election booths.
The two revolutionary crous in the Union Coub, e. that including TATTU YGLESES, ROBERTO SALAZAR, aná FERNANDO CASTRO CERVANTES and that broup including JOSE FIGUERES and MARIO ESQUIVEL stated in the Union Club at noon on February 11, 1946, that they would not attempt a Golpe de Estado because the elections had been sufficiently devoid of fraud that the people had been able to more accurately express their wili.
