STATE RECEIVED DEPARTMENT OF. The Honorable The Secretary of State, Washington, OPM FEB 818. 00 1246 TARA Sirs With reference to my telegram No. 60 of February 12, 11 a. giving the provisional results of the elections of February 10, have the honor to report that it now appears definite that the National Republican Party won twelve seats in the coming Congress, the Opposition nine, and the Vanguardia Popular Party two. The elections were conducted with relative impartiality and an almost complete lack of disorder.
As is customary in the case of midterm elections, the total number of votes cast was lighter than that of a presidential campaign. Approximately one hundred thousand votes were cast to elect twenty three congressmen. The deputies elected, by provinces, were as follows: SAN JOSE: NATIONAL REPUBLICAN PARTY Tomás GUARDIA Tinoco José ALBERTAZZI Avendaño Federico VOLIO González Virgilio CALVO Brenes 818. 00 1446 MAR 2 1946 OPPOSITION Antonio PEÑA Chavarría Fernando LARA Escalante Roberto JIMENEZ Ortiz Juan José HERRERO BLAR 28 1946 VANGUARDIA POPULAR PARTY be 1391 a Manuel MORA Valverde DOE.
