CH Corett SUBJECT: Costs fica armen Lyra rites on the Social Struggle Carmen Lyra, leftist intellectual who was one of the organizers on the Communist party in Costa Rica and who is active in Vanguardia Popular and an intimate adviser of Manuel Mora, hos nublished a long account in La Tribuna tracing the history of the underdog in Costa Rica and his black misery at the hands of the powerful.
Taking as her point of departure the recent incident in which a bomb was thrown into Mora house, she charges that the deed was done at the bidding of the terrorist wing of the opposition. In answer to Opposition comment that the bomb was merely retribution for Vanguardia blackjacks and that the Vanguardistes are reaping what they have sown, she charges the opposition with having sown the winds which let loose the storms of social conflict.
FW 818. 00 11 1946 She gives an account of the long struggle for social justice in Costa Rica and asserts that the present ideals of Vanguardia Popular are no more exotic than were those of the republicans of 1821. She calls for courage in the hard fight against imperialism and internal reaction and defiantly proclaims that bombs and persecution will not stop the merch of history toward the amplification of democracy begun by Tom Paine, Thomas Jefferson and George Washington.
