About a hundred men were involved in the attacks. The comnany estimates that it will take about three days to get then repaired. In the meantime the one remaining nlant will serve essential public services and ration nower a counle of hours at a time to the various sections of town. Our power went on again from eleven to one and again at seventhirty and is still on at PM. spent the morning at the office except for a visit to the PRA office to talk over their radio phone to Colonel Hughes who is at Millsville, He seemed to expect heavy activity along the road from there to San Isidro during the day but hoped to get through to San Isidro to see what actually goes on there. told him he might bring out the two American pilots stuck there if it seems wise at the time. He will have to use his discretion.
Nelson Rockefeller and party were expected today and we had a small group for lunch to meet them. However, we got a radio from the plane about an hour before it landed that the party was not on board. We had a nice lunch anyway without them. returned to the office in the afternoon, Jules Dubois of the Chicago Tribune came in to tell the story of his being taken to police headquarters, told he could send out, no more reports, and warned to remain in the hotel. He said he gave no oromo se as to the latter, but will use discretion.
In the laterafternoon Donovan and took a drive in his car around the airport. Coming back along the north side we stopped to look at three planes parked near the stadium.
We were curious as we had just seen three cars full of men, only one of whom we recognized as Segura of the Foreign Office, entering the building beside the planes. policeman in blue uniform who was stacking some wood by the building picked up his rifle and fired at us. We went on. He fired three shots after us. The range was at least 200 yards.
He didn hit us.
As started this writing heavy firing broke out in our immediate enighborhood and was answered heavily by rifle and machineguns from the cuartel. thought it might be an attack on the cuartel, but it soon died down. An American who hear the brewery phoned to say that about fifteen men were firing from the railroad track in the direction of the cuartel. Several bullets nenetrated his house.
