We told him straight that Figueres had said that he did not trust the government and that if there were any violation of the order he would call. off the whole thing. We added that our personal honor. and prestige of our countries was involved and that any violation would mean our complete withdrawal.
The matter of the phone connection with Tres Rios is worth mention. While we were talking with the President the first time a call came ellegedly from Tres Rios asking for an ambulance. Sitting at the President desk the Mexican ambassador picked up the phone and asked for. the Tres Rios number. The man who answered identified himself as Lieutenant Saborio of the Figueres forces. He said he had no assurance that he was in fact talking with the Mexican Ambassador and would call back on the Embassy number. That is why we hurried to that Embassy.
The six members of the commission are to meet at my house at tomorrow morning for breakfast. We plan to leave about escorted by Colonel Lopez of the Presidential military household.
