There is ample evidence of this taot since the results show that the Vanguardia presidential candidate received only a handful of votes although Vanguardia for congressional seats werG WOLL SUDpor todo Moreover, during the course of the civil war no appreciablo difference could be noted between the policies followed by the Calderonistas and by the Vanguardia Popular in their radio and press campaigns both of which supported Dr. Calderon and praised the actions of the irregular troops largely recruited from Vanguardia supporters and direoted by their leaders. On the other hand, so far as the Embassy is awar; the only basis for Calderon allegation of an understanding between Mora and Figueres is a letter dated April 19, 1948 to Manuel Mora signed by Father Nuñoz enolosing a copy of the series of political and social guarantees which ware agreed upon between Mora and Father Nuñez.
