Larly in the 18th century the Indians living there rose ia rebellion and burned a number of churches and convente. As a result the Spaniards transported then acrosa the mountains to the Pacific coast where they had also assembled Boruca and other Indians native to that area.
Most of the tahabitants around 3elitre are Bribri. The so called Talamancas brought from the Caribbean are really Cabecar which in their language means place of the Quotsal. In the town of Boruca itself are found Indians from several tribos knew collectively as Borucas but actually are distinct groups, the principal ones being Cetoa, Quepos, Dures, and Albuayes, each with their own language. The Tárraba Indians also have their own language but in the district there are many who speak Chiripo, Ujarras, and Cabeear. It la because of these amall linguistic groups that the people generally have learned Spanish in order that family may communicate with family.
