DINERE vr. ferreto went or. Do say that it is party missed the opportunity during the neobisions to terminate the civil War of brinin ir Ulate to the presidency. it had made an error which showed mery little political perspicacity, Referring to ir Figueres statements that the documents published in La Nacion. that is the April 18 letter fron Father Iluſiez and the accompanying series of social guarantees. were apocryphal, ferreto said the pact which brought the civil war to an end contains a clause stating that a special document delivered by the cry of National Liberation to the chief of the Vanguardia Popular party had included the guarantees for the promotion of the social and economic welfare of the laboring classes. He then asked why, if the document published in La Nacion of February is not that referred to in the pertinent clause of the pact, the authentic copy which must have been signed by Mr. Mora should not be published. In referring to the letter, Ferreto says it was known in its original by important persons who do not belong to our party and who know positively that it is authentic. Moreover, Comrade ora preserved the original of both despite the efforts of the police to have them disappear. In addition, what interest could ve have in inventing them at this time when they no longer have any practical value since none of their provisions were ever fulfilled?
For the moment this spate of correspondence has died down but many of the questions it raises renain unanswered.
It is to be expected that sooner or later it will again be resumed largely if Mr. Ulate finds it expedient to do so since his possession of the photostats made in the Canal Zone leave him with plenty of ammunition. As some doubt has been cast on the authenticity of the Father Nuñez letter, the publication of the photostatic copy will revive the entire matter whenever it may be necessary to do so and lr. Ulate has a copy to which he can resort.
