اح OF THE ARCHIVES From La República, July 24th, 1913: TES The Costa Ricans must already have luarned of the cable of the New York Times to the President of the Republic, in which he was asked for an opinion with regard to the protectorate in Nicaragua and the possibility of a similar arrangement for Costa Rica. They must also have learned of the fitting response of our President.
To day the cable impudently announces the intentions of Wilson and Bryan to establish a protectorate in Central America, At this unjustifiable and criminal aggression, Costa Rican patriot sm ought not to maintain silence. Disregarding political divisions, which mean no thing, and having in view only the danger to our fatherland, we should all unit in a unanimous protest against the threat of conquest.
To day there is to be celebrated a patriotic mass meeting, called together by various patriots; and we are sure that no Costa Ricans worthy of the memory of Juan Mora will fail to assist at this meeting.
Let us Costa Ricans, our country is threatened with death, unite to her.
