OF THE UN ARCHIVES and frele 711. 13 28 Siri STATES In reply to the Department telegraphic instruction of July 27th, directing me to say to the President of Costa Rica that the American Government does AUG 29 1913 FILED not contemplate any change in its attitude towards Central America, and that Minister Calvo had been informed as to the provisions in the Nicaraguan treaty, have the honor to inform you that called upon President Jiménez and delivered the Department message as directed. The President seemed much pleased upon the receipt of this news, and asked me please to express to the Secretary of State his thanks for the message and assurances, which, he never doubted; also asking me to convey to Mr. Bryan expressions of his highest respects.
The excitement over the anti American demonstration has now quite died out and is no longer mentioned in the press.
