Last evening a further demonstration of rejoicing was held in Parque Morazan with patriotic speeches, the ringing of bells and the discharge of bombs and firecrackers. Atvnot time did the feeling of the people seem to me sufficiently intense to make it ad visable to advise the Department by cable. In fact it is believed here that the demonstration was largely the work of the opposition leaders and an inflammatory letter from Policarpo Bonilla was intercepted in which he urged the people to open protest. The bearer THE of the letter was arrested.
Dr. Membreño, Honduranean Minister in Washington, who is here at present, communicated to me the facts, so far as he knows them, concerning the Treaty with Nicaragua and the proposal made to the Department by the lawyer for Señor Cuadra for an additional clause to that Treaty which, presumably, was the occasion of the alarming cablegrams and which, assume, if Sunday telegram from El Salvador is correct, was rejected by the Senate Committe on Foreign Relations. have the honor to be, sir, Your obedient servant, Chaletlikie 700.
