SIR: have the honor to report that a public manifestam OCT 17 1918 FILET tion against the proposed protectorate of the United States over Nicaragua took place here in the afternoon of Sunday, the third instant.
Thirty nine persons, some of them of more or less importance in the community, permitted the use of their names on the hand bills which summoned the people to this demonstration. José Men breño (a pharmacist. Hector Medina Planas (a civil engineer. Colonel Salomón Sosa (a retired army officer. Professor Uladislao Gómez (a teacher. and several other persons addressed the manifestants, who assembled at the Morazan Park and afterwards marched through the principal streets of the city, preceded by the flags of the five Central
