The situation in Central America The North American intervention.
Central America 1s ega in passing throug one of those sad periods which like diseases, smite those countries which are our brothers in language, ori in and civilization. Their 700graphical position and natural wealth place them in a privileged situation, but the inconsistency of their political relations handicap their development and progresa.
What makes the situation still more serious in Central America is the cont inued intervention of the Onited States, which has just lan od troops in bicaragua with the intention of lerving them there indefinitely, according to the latest news.
Even supposing the best of intenti ns in the nited States, it is inadmissible for countries of free America to suffer the tutelage of any other country.
And it is equally regrettable that the Island Porto Rico, which. o depends on the orth American Nation, canriot obtain its lon hoxed for in de rendence.
The countries of Central America havet times more or less setively established the bonds of a confederation which if converted into stable and intimate federation would easily ive them the necessary force to proclaim their sacred and undisputabie right of refusing to suffer tutelage, which should not exist after a century of emancipation from Spain.
These countries have no right to aggrieved in regard to a proclamation of the sacred right to absolute independence, without the Yankee interference or good offices.
If America has declered herself independent by force of arme to se ver the bonds of what we could o 11 doninion, she can kell request the abolishment of tutelage which is ever loss respectable and sacred.
