VES CR THERN The comment of LISTIN DIARIO, the oldest and most important journal in the country, was as follows. Today the five Central American Republics, Guatemala, Honduras, Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, celebrate the date of their independence. Born to sovereign lile on the same day, a glorious one for America, many of their good sons conceived the idea of a confederation, which would have been an irresistible bulwark against the assaults of the colossus of the North. But the policy of Washington is always opposed to this end, which would weaken its imperialistiç plans for the future. The ideal of Morazan was defeated, and the five small nations have been struggling against the dangers of the absolute absorption by the North. May they defend and sustain their independence and may there triumph in them the spirit of saving political unification. On this great day we present out most sincere congratulations to the five Central American Republics, in the person of their worthy consular representatives in this city.
