IVES In the course of the years, the American policy, fearful of the there perhaps being formed south of Mexico a strong state and desirous of maintaining its predominance in Central America in order to take advantage of the facilities offered by the territory of Nicaragua for the construction of an inter oceanic canal, has continually opposed the idea of union, an idea which has never ceased to have noble supporters in the five Republics of Central America. Sandino is fighting today for the liberty of Nicaragua, subjugated by nordic cupidity, and this struggle of redemption must be extended to Honduras and to any of the Central American republics which are victims of the common enemy; perhaps that may be the germ of a profound and solemn movement in favor of the original union. Perhaps. For the present, may our VOWS De for the felicity of the Central American Republics and above all, for the success oỉ the liberator Sandino, the jouthful hero who with his heroism and his ideals has gained the frank sympathy of all America, and of the whole world even.
EL MUNDO, a recently established evening journal conspicuous for its support of the administration, commented. The Central American peoples are today in jubilant joy, on the occasion of attaining another anniversary of their independence. Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Salvador and Honduras should form a political confederation, oriented towards a purpose of progress and common defense, such as was anxiously desired by the heart of that great republican who was named Morazán; but this idea of unification has always encountered strong obstacles in the accomplished manoeuvres of the chancellery of Washington, obliged to maintain the division for the benefit of its dominating policy. The joy of this glorious anniversary is perturbed by the dolorous situation of Nicaragua, victim of North American imperialism and of treason of a group of its sons, rudely combatted by the valiant Cesar Augusto Sandino.
