The existing form of pure Crown Colony government is to be modified, and a certain number is to be elected by popular vote to membership of the Legislative Council This Council as at present constituted, consists of ten official Government members and eleven unofficial members nominated by the Governor, who, as President of the Council, has an original and a casting vote. As the result of recommendations made in 1922 by Mr. Wood. who was then Parliamentary Under Secretary for the Colonies, after bis visit to the West Indies, the oua ber of unofficial members is to be increased to 13 of whom six will be nominated by the Governor, as at present, while the remaining seven will be. lected. The voter must be a British subject of at least two years residence in the Colony and must be able to understand the English language when spoken By Proclamation by the Acting Governor on July 26th the Royal Letters Patent constituting the new Government will come into operation on August 21st and during the ensuing four months the work of preparing the register of votes will be carried out, in order that the first general election may take place in January next year.
