Copies may be had from the office of the WORKMAN Panama The third drowning fatality within the short space of three weeks occurred off Sauteurs on Saturday last at about midday when a boistercussea claimed Joe Benjamin, a veteran fisherman of about bo years of age residing at River Sallee, St.
Patrick It is said that Benjamin and two ether men, Hubert Joseph and Billy Wellington, were fishing between Sandy and Green Islands, when it occurred to them that they should take a look at their fish pot which had been a good distance out to sea.
Reaching the spot where the fish pot was moored, the men started to raise it. The sea was high and all three were engaged in their task when a huge swell rose, and bursting over the boat, capsized it. With a strong adverse current and rough waves, great difficulty was experienced in righting the boat. Benjamin, it is alleged, grew irate at what had happened and said he would swim to Sandy Island a half a mile away. This he set out to do, leaving his companions. boat came elong some time after and assisted Wellington and Joseph. Next day enquiries made at Sandy Island for Benjamin elieited that he had not turned up. The police made enquiries ir consequence of the report of his loss but up to now no trace can be found of the man and it has been concluded that he was claimed by the heavy seas which raged off Sauteurs on that day.
