late Governor had no opportunity to select a new panel of advisers. At any rate, his successor has made Hickory with his selections. Sir Ed ward Denham has again accepted local conditions as his Guide and every true citizen of British Guiana hopes that His Excellency display of confidence in the various sections of this cosmopolitan community will engender the ideal state of amity between race and race.

cial treatment which the proposal form Trade Commissioner Service in London received at the hands of the House of Assembly on Tuesday, The Attorney General uaconvincing attitude in introduc cing the proposal was perhaps ir come measure responsible for such extraordinary amendments as the one which had for its objects ac quiscense in the scheme provided all the other islands entered it. Of conse, we prefer to treast it as a cynical mother than as a serious sug gestion.
But can Barbados, or any other and akord at the present time to LOOK ASKANCE UPON SUCH SCHEME 24 is contemplated? We think not The view entertained in som quarters that the activities of th WUR India Committee and othel esponsible bodies, institutions and individuals in respect of the present 811gar crisis have brought the col onies all the advertisement they need that advertisement has reach pd saturation point. But those who accept this view are living in Fool Paradise. Now that the col unies are widely known is the time for advercising their industries and for increasing and developing markets. It is sufficiently realised on all sides fhat money is scarce, but it would be bad economics to cease propaganda as a result. By stressing this question of depression and by indulging in undue pessimism over the hard times as though there will never be good times coming some of our lenders, we are afraid may unconsciously the colony in calculable harms. The present the time for optimism and courage and we think it unfortunate that Eerious consideration was not giver matter of far reaching import ance to Barbados and her sister col onies. There is such a thing as eco nomie blindness.
For Development of Colony Resources TO GET GOOD WORK DONE the Argosy states that at a re meeting of the Legislacive neil of British Guiana, the Hon Eleazer gave notice to move the wing resolution 11 Whereas it is generally admitted hat the colony possesses her Yast hinterland almost unlimited sources of undeveloped wealin anc We do only the BEST at Reasonable PRICES at is GRENADA THE WORKMAN PRINTERY Whereas an increase in the ju ulation is absolutely necessary succesful exploitation of Lese resources; and Vhereas it is agreed shaz preparation for and the commenca ment of the construction of a Rail way into the hinterland will attract population to the colony as well as relieve unemployment; and Whereas the finances, of the col ony stand in great need of re orga nization and adjustment owing prin cipally to the failure of the colony major industry. Be it resolved that immediate steps be taken to secure from the Colonial Development Fund or otherwise a loan of not less than 5, 000, 000 with or without interest for a period of ten years for the purpose of constructing a Railway into the hinterland as a sure mean towards the expansion of the co ony production and the equipment of her industries; and Be it further resolved that Excellency be respectfully request ed to forward a copy of this motion and the debates thereon to the Sec retary of State for his information.

able. Their entry into these fields which were hitherto considered the special preserves of men, has pot always been pleasingly regard ea by some persons but even these objectors will testify that they have proved themselves equal to then Lew and important duties. Their final Carlos Mendoza Street NEAR JAVILLO RUBBER STAMPS good an to Manufactured to Order AT THE SHORTEST POSSIBLE NOTICE COMPLETE EMANCIPATION has been one of the good results of the Great War. During that strug kle they proved beyond doubt that 20 courage, daring and counsel, they were not in any way inferior to their brothers and af plied the death blow to idea which had even previously begin to become decadent. The women of Great Britain now take their full share of interest in politics and recently one has proved worthy of inclusion as a member of the Cab net in the Labour Government.
The decision of the Secretary of State will perhaps meet it strongest opposition in this island where the desire for political progress is neve greatly encouraged. There will be many who will promtly re ject the decision as revo lutionary and contrary to the best interest of the Government of These islands. It is probable too that among the doubters will be several persons who could by no stretch of magination be included in the rank: Cf the die harda The debate in the House of Assembly recently on the Trotion to enfranchise working wo nien lends great support to this opinion. The strongest opponents of the motion were men of liber views who favour the principle of women suffrage but they prefer zed that our political development should follow the lines which were adopted in England. And this is not after all an unreasonable view in a Colony which has displayed a la mentable willingness preclude even many of its qualified male citizens from a voice in the Govern ment. But the times are rapidly changing. It is impossible for Bar bados not to be affected by public cpinion in the neighbouring islands, and this latest forward movement in Grenada must inevitably centre greater attention on a subject which has been given more consideration locally than appears on the surface.
It nothing more than the promotion of widor thought in the matter is achieved in Barbados from our neighbour step forward, we shall yet have received considerable benefit. The forthcoming election in Grenada no less than the future trend of political thought in the other Colonies will assuredly be full of interest.
