They both (particularly the father) appear to be most objectionable types of immigrants for any country. An American who saw them remarked jokingly, but with some show of annoyance as well, that, no matter how objectionable they might be, the United States would admit them, or, in other words, though they might not be qualified to remain in or become citizens of Costa Rica, they were good enough for the United States, where they would be admitted with little or no difficulty.
As stated in former despatches, this agricultural country does not appear to offer a very fertile field for the propagation of Communism. Only a very few of the limited number of unemployed. save the professional loafers and agitators. appear thus far to have evinced more than passing interest in any communistic doctrine which may have come to them, whether in the form of printed matter or direct contact with those engaged actively in preaching such doctrine. Nevertheless, the indications are that Costa Rica is included in the list of Latin American countries which may expect increasing activity along these lines. of which Government officials seem quite aware, and for which they are endeavoring to adequately prepare themselves.
