TRANSLATION August 22, 1934.
His Excellency Ricardo Jiménez President of the Republic City Mr. President: The undersigned bed ng obliged, in his duties as Administrator and Chief of the Compañia Bananera de Costa Rica, to cut, transport, and export fruit, visi ted the Atlantic coast on Friday the 17th of the present month and spent nearly all of his time on the fincas at Guácimo (owned by the Company. Virginia (owned by Ortuño, Montejo, Harring ton and Gutierrez) and Damasco (owned by Martínez, Castro and Salazar. Accompanied by some men from Puntarenas, who were joined by others from Limon, we went ahead with the cutting of bananas.
This was done under police protection and the undersigned believes that it is only fair to say that General Monge and Coronel Gallegos who were in charge of the detachments, proceeded uniformly with fairness and justice, respecting every one rights and avoiding difficulties, in so far as it was possible, with great energy and discretion.
During the three days that the undersigned was in the Atlantic zone, he had the opportunity of interviewing a large number of workers. The undersigned knows more or less sixty percent of the workers of the Atlantic region
